Ms Karen Nyborg
Assistant Principal Secondary – Curriculum, Progress and Assessment
Karen feels incredibly privileged to be part of the GEMS World Academy – Dubai family as Assistant Principal of Secondary for Curriculum, Progress and Assessment. Karen works closely with the MYP and DP teaching staff, administrators, and families to the student body achieves outstanding success in all their personal and academic goals, in order to enter the world’s leading post-secondary institutions. Karen believes this can be achieved by implementing the in a way which allows students to explore their passions, their confidence as life-long learners, and challenges them in new and unexpected ways.
Karen has had the good fortune of working with a variety of curricula including the International Baccalaureate, US Common Core, and Canadian curriculum in schools throughout the UAE, China, South Korea, and Canada. to joining GWA, Karen held the role of Deputy Head of Secondary and IBDP Coordinator at a school in the UAE. Karen is particularly passionate about leading learning in the MYP and DP programmes, as the IB provides students with a truly global perspective, as well as an ability to develop the characteristics of the IB Learner Profile that are necessary to be successful in an ever-changing world.
Karen’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in International Development Studies and History, and a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Education. Karen is currently pursuing a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Leadership at University of New Brunswick in her native Canada.
